what were they smoking in the dye shack?

The first Noro Stripey sock was fabulous – the colours and stripes just played out perfectly.  The toe ended on the yellow/orange part of the spectrum.  I happily cast on for Sock #2.  I did the ribbing, then started the stripes.  But disaster!  The yarn on both skeins was heavy on the orange and green; skein 1 was orange feeding into green for several stripes, then skein #2 was all green.

I like orange ... and green ... just not this much of it!

I pulled more yarn out to see if the colours were going to change again, but it was a sea of orange and green forever.

IMG_8296

well, that's a little better

I yanked out enough yarn until it changed to blue and a different shade of green.  Since this photo, I’ve done a couple more inches.  But the stripes are not as defined as Sock #1.  The colours for skein #2 have gone from blue to grey, and from skein 1 from green to blue.  I hope it will get a little brighter and different shades completely so it will be more like Sock #1.

Almost the weekend

and we’re more than ready for it.

I got a wonderful package in the mail today – look!!

Wingspan!

Wingspan!

Ande had knit me this gorgeous shawl, Wingspan.  And the perfectly matched shawl pin!  And there was also a skein of Sweet Fiber sock yarn in turquoise/black.  And a cd with some new songs from Mr. Foster! A great way to start the day.

AudreyApollo Hepburn

Apollo channels Audrey Hepburn

He loves that blanket!  Ava puked on the burgundy electric blanket this aft, so I had to wash it.  When the blankets came out of the dryer, he snuggled in his favourite gold plush blanket.

his girlfriend

the happy couple

I’m going to try to get to bed early tonight so I won’t feel so exhausted by Friday night.  Time to shut down the laptop and knit a bit.

stripey

Plugging away on the stripey sock.  Man, that Kureyon is rough.  I know the end result will be worth it, but it’s so aggravating.  It’s exacerbated by the two skeins.  Double the skeins, double the twistiness.  I’ve had to cut out a knot in each of the skeins so far.  And I have cuts in my finger tips from the yarn drying them out.

Now it’s working down to the toe decreases, 4-row stripes at a time.

flagpole roach

Even though he is unsteady on his back legs, can’t see so well any more, sleeps like the dead and is easily started, our big boy can still:

roach in the sunshine!

He’s being coy, looking over at me from the corner of his eye!

No photos, but I actually have Sock #1 in the middle of the heel flap.  Wow, that Kureyon is drying.  My fingers have cracks in them from it.  The yarn is as gross and twisty and aggravating, but the colours are looking awesome.  So it will all be worth it in the end.  I am doing the socks one at a time so I didn’t have to start fussing with splitting two skeins in two, etc.

I had to buy a new laptop on the weekend, and now face the endless task of transferring over programs and data.  Actually the data is easy – I have two external hard drive back ups, so it’s just plugging that in and copying it back over.  But the programs, ah, that will take a while.  I’ll pick away at it a little at a time and hope my current laptop doesn’t crap out before I’m done.

raaawwrrrr! FrankenSocks

I have seen a few variations of the Noro Stripey Socks – love all the crazy stripes!  I have two pairs of socks that I’ve knit with Noro Kureyon.  It’s a love/hate thing.  I love the end result, but I hate the twigs, wacky twists and thick/thin of the yarn for the actual knitting process.

Noro #233 and 182

So far the stripes haven’t been horribly jarring/clashing.  But you know how crazy the Noro colourways are! We’ll see how it goes.

Five hours? I’m not sure.

This baby sweater is called the “Five Hour Baby Sweater“.  I didn’t keep track of how long I worked on it, but I started it Friday night and finished it last night.  (And I’ve worked almost 30 hours already this week.)

5 hour baby sweater

pretty sure it was more than 5 hours

This is Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice acrylic worsted weight.  This probably will fit when the baby is 2-3 months old.  But I had a bee in my bonnet to make it, so I did.

Now I’ve started a pair of Noro Stripey Socks FOR ME!  I have just barely started, so I don’t know how barfy the colour stripes will be.  They may end up being FrankenNoro socks because I’m just knitting it as it comes, I’m not going to be cutting out colour sections, etc.  We’ll see!

More babeh knits

The day our friends’ baby was born, it was -31°C here.  Poor little thing needed a sweater, I thought.  The “5 Hour Baby Sweater” is a quick knit because it’s worsted weight yarn.  I made one last year, so I dug out the pattern, picked up a couple of balls of a nice washable yarn and cast on  Friday night.

I'm too weak ... you'll have to bring the cookie to me here.

We stopped by the pet store yesterday to restock the Tripe Patties ;-)

suck it, douchebag

Shit like this makes me see red.  There was an editorial published in a dinky, podunk weekly newspaper that has caused an uproar.  Dude was pulled over for a traffic check, decided he was being oppressed, then went and posted a very slanderous and erroneous version of the incident in his little newspaper – because he’s “the editor”.  O. Really.

The editorial has since mysteriously been removed from the Osoyoos Times website but  Google cache has the text.  (I was going to post it in its entirety here, but it’s online in enough places, it’s not going to disappear.  Remember, the internet is forever.)

When the RCMP realized the existence of this horribly slanted account, they took a step from their normal procedures and posted a rebuttal to his editorial on the RCMP website.  The upshot is that the police car/officer were wired for video and sound and the entire encounter was recorded, both video and audio and – surprise, surprise – it didn’t occur quite the way the editor said in his editorial.  I’ll bet that made his asshole pucker a little bit.

The RCMP has offered to make public the video so that people can see both sides of the story and decide which is the more accurate account.  I wish they would.  The editor made his allegations in a very public forum and manner, I think the actual video of the incident should be available in the same manner.

The Province’s story has an update from last night that quotes the editor saying he is worried he will lose his job (ya think?) and that he will publish an apology in next week’s issue of the paper.  As for the video, he said he’s have to consult his publisher before giving permission for the RCMP to release the video.  Well, call me a cynic, but I don’t think that video will ever be released.

My favourite quote from the RCMP article: If there was one positive to your negative article, it was a reminder to me of the many baseless and malicious allegations our members must constantly face while carrying out their duties. Fortunately, in this case, the video removes any doubt that the police officer’s actions were professional and respectful.

I applaud Superintendent Ray Bernoties for posting the public letter and for standing up for the rights and protecting the integrity of the serving members.

Ava and Apollo’s social calendar

is way busier than mine.  How sad is that? (Actually, I say that completely tongue-in-cheek because I love staying home, hate going out.)

Ruby and Elsa (and their peeps) stopped by last evening for pizza and beer and a nice visit.  It was so fabulous to see four little bums in the back yard, running around in a pack, sniffing, taking care of business!

I tried to fit them all in the frame:

but I should have used a different lens, I guess

They all sniffed and visited and went outside and had supper …

Her wound healed up very nicely.  The initial injury wasn’t that bad, but then it got infected and was a real mess.  Gah!
